Let's try something interesting
Under the Hype will be doing its best to deliver more value to you. Let's discover what surprises are coming this last quarter of the year.
Hello, Hypers!
We are entering the last quarter of the year. This has been an intense year for me and Under the Hype. It has been a year of discoveries, experimentation, achievements, and some failures too of course.
But the end of 2023 is still three months away and I want to try new things in this last quarter.
Under the Hype remains free for all
First, I want to be clear about what is not changing: Under the Hype will be free during his entire life. I can’t promise I’ll be writing this newsletter for a long time (although I hope so), but I promise you that it will always be free.
The reason is that I enjoy writing these articles. I don’t have a big list of subscribers (yet), but I don’t write to increase the number of subscribers. I write for myself. I just like it.
Also, besides not being too large, the number of subscribers is not zero. And some of you have reached out to tell me that you are enjoying what I’m doing. That means the world to me. I love to help people, and the good thing is that I’m helping others while doing something I like.
Writing is not just an entertainment to me. It is also a great exercise to understand the world around me and to understand myself too. Writing has taught me how wrong I was about some topics. It helps me to deal with stress, and it forces me to add creativity to my life.
In summary, you will never have to pay to read Under the Hype’s weekly articles and I have no reason to stop writing them for now.
I want to do more
Writing a weekly article doesn’t require too much effort from me. At least I don’t feel overwhelmed or burnt out. But I would like to do more things for you and for me.
That’s when the conflict emerges. I need to do other things with my time. I need to work so I can eat each day and pay my rent each month. I would love to solve this conflict in a way that allows me to do what I love.
Right now, I’m enjoying my job. I can’t complain about that. However, I want to start working on creating other sources of income that, at some point, give me the opportunity to spend more time doing what I feel excited about. For example, I wrote a book and I will probably write more. However, I think that I could deliver much more value if I offer a service based on what I do every day for a living.
Combining expertise and passion
As you probably already know, I’m a Computer Scientist. In the last year I have managed to work for a large company (it is called Amadeus, but this is not important). I have been also leading a small team of developers and we are doing some cool things with Generative AI. From this experience, I could offer different services and products like:
Programming courses (either for beginners or about advanced stuff)
AI tools for a specific business niche
Books on these topics, etc
However, I want to start with something else. In all my jobs in the last years, I have been responsible for interviewing candidates, evaluating them, and having a vote on whether they are a good fit for the team or not. Also, I have been able to get the jobs I have wanted.
I think I can offer good advice on how to get the job you want. How to write your resume, how to prepare for interviews, and how to nail those interviews. This is what I want to offer to Under the Hype paid subscribers.
With this, I’m not closing the door to the other alternatives I mentioned above. And this is another benefit paid subscribers would get. They will have early access to all my other products and services (including discounts).
So, without further ado…
The offer
I want to start with something simple. For just 5.00 USD per month, you can:
Support my work :)
Request a C.V. review each month
Request a 30-minute one-to-one call with me each month to talk about:
How to get ready for interviews
An upcoming interview
Mentoring on how to get and stay in the job you want.
Any other thing you want to talk about
Suggest the topic of the next Under the Hype post.
Get early access and discounts on all the products and services I create.
Automatically get access to future perks like paywalled articles.
The price of this subscription can go up anytime in the future. But it will only affect future subscribers. All the people that subscribe now, will remain paying 5.00 USD forever. Of course, you can cancel your subscription at any time.
That’s it. I think it is a very fair price. If you don’t think the same I would really love to hear why. Please, reply with your thoughts and I’ll do my best to offer something that better fits your needs.
However, I understand if you have doubts about the benefits or if you can’t afford the price of the subscription. That’s why I have also thought about a free alternative for you to support my work and get a benefit.
Rebranding the Referral Program
Under the Hype has a referral program already. But now I want to change it so you can get the benefits more easily and for free. This is the deal:
For every two referrals, you can pick one among the options 2, 3, and 4 from the above list of paid subscribers benefits.
To be clearer. Each time you bring two new free subscribers to Under the Hype, you can choose one of these rewards:
A C.V. review
A 30-minute one-to-one call
Suggest the topic of the next Under the Hype post
This is a free way to test whether the paid subscription is worth it and to access the paid benefits.
Conclusions
I don’t want to make this post too long. So this is just a quick recap:
Under the Hype will be free forever
The paid version of Under the Hype will give you access to the following benefits (for only 5.00 USD/month):
Support my work :)
Request a C.V. review each month
Request a 30-minute one-to-one call with me each month to talk about:
How to get ready for interviews
An upcoming interview
Mentoring on how to get and stay in the job you want.
Any other thing you want to talk about
Suggest the topic of the next Under the Hype post.
Get early access and discounts on all the products and services I create.
Automatically get access to future perks like paywalled articles.
The referral program has been rebranded. Now, for every two new free subscribers you bring, you can pick one of the following benefits:
A C.V. review
A 30-minute one-to-one call
Suggest the topic of the next Under the Hype post
Also, I’ll be probably off from mid-December till mid-January. I’ll try to schedule the weekly articles for those dates but I’ll not be able to make any review or call during that time. Don’t worry, paid subscriptions will be paused for one month so you won’t be charged for that time.
I’m very excited about this initiative. I hope it works and allows me to come up with new ways of delivering more value to you and spend more time doing what I truly love.
I want to finish this article thanking you for being there each week. No matter if you are interested in the paid subscription or not, I only hope you stay with me Under the Hype for a lot of more weeks.
See you next Tuesday!
I think this is a brilliant idea. It's definitely a lot of value for the price you're asking. If you get a lot of paid subscribers, the one-to-one calls might become a lot. If it's possible you might want to break that into to its own tier down the line.
I resonate with this because it's how I feel. I write for myself, but I also want to build something more, diversify income, and help other people be better. You'll have to let me know how this goes.
