Translate Everything with a Single Command
A tiny code snippet you can use to translate whatever you want!
Hello, Hypers!
This week I’m coming to share a simple tool I created to solve a little problem I had. As many of you know, I wrote a book on Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain. I wanted to show another perspective on crypto by talking about its economic and mathematical fundamentals. While I’m really happy with the result, there is a tiny “problem”: the book is written in Spanish.
I preferred to write it in my first language, partially because I’m not very confident with my English but also because I had never written technical stuff in Spanish. But now, I want to write the English version so it can reach more people.
Let’s be honest, who would want to spend hours translating a book? Writing it was hard enough! I don’t want to pay for translation services, I’m trying to make the whole process (writing, editing, selling, etc) by myself, and the book has not generated enough money to pay for its own translation.
But I’m lucky to live in the 2020s (right?).
LLMs to the Rescue!
Yes, now we can access translation services at almost no cost. And if you know how to write code, then you can translate an entire book in no time! That’s what I did.
I made the OpenAI API to translate the entire book for me. It was just a dirty, tiny, Python code snippet but then I thought that it could solve someone else’s problems too. So I created a public GitHub repository for it.
If you go to this link you’ll find a nice README along with the rest of the code. There you’ll find all the instructions to use and customize this small project. I used docker to make sure everything works anywhere not just when running the project but also when developing.
Please, feel free to do whatever you want with this simple code. If you are starting to learn Python or Docker it could be a good practice to try to customize things a little bit. And if this repo is somehow useful, please leave your star. I’ll be happy to read your suggestions and solve your doubts, so don’t hesitate to ask!
The Result
I got pretty good results. I only had to translate a few illustrations. Of course, I reviewed the entire thing and changed a couple of words but I saved a lot of hours for sure.
If you want to check it by yourself and if you are curious about knowing how Bitcoin and Ethereum work, whether this whole crypto thing is a scam, or what are the mathematical secrets behind this technology, then I think you’ll like Cryptocurrencies and Blockchain: A Fresh Take for Post-Lunch Chats.
And, of course, I have a special offer for you all. Just use the code crypto-hyper and get a 50% discount. Use it quickly because it expires on March, 14th. Also, you have 7 days to get a 100% refund in case you don’t like the book (I won’t ask any questions).
But it gets even better for the paid subscribers of this newsletter! As I promised, you’ll receive big discounts on any of my paid projects and this is not the exception. You should receive another email with a code to get the book for free!
If you have any problem with the purchase, please let me know, and I’ll solve it ASAP.
And that’s it! I hope you can take advantage of this tiny translator either by translating your stuff or by practicing your Python and Docker skills. Remember that your discount has an expiration date so make sure to use it before March, 14th.
This is the link to the book again
Thank you very much for reading me for another week. Let’s do it again next Tuesday!
I never would have guessed English wasn't your first language. Your writing in English is excellent.
