Your Under the Hype Map
I have done some house cleaning. Now you can easily find the topics you like the most. You're welcome!
Hello, Hypers!
You are on your sofa and random thoughts begin to pass through your head. You start thinking about the role of agriculture in the development of our society. A few seconds later, you realize that you need to buy vegetables for your next salad! Isn’t it amazing?
The original title of this article was “All Started with Partitions“. I changed it later. The thing is that I was thinking about the fact that partitions and equivalences are the same thing. I started to think about how to write an article about this fact and I ended up deciding to create sections for Under the Hype.
So, this publication is not about Set Theory. Today I’m presenting the new sections of Under the Hype!
The Intent of Sectioning
I like to write about many topics. But let’s be honest, I don’t know about too many topics. In essence, I think there are only two things I can talk about:
Some Computer Science
My experiences and takes
Note: Clumsiness aside, I'm quite the champ at the last topic!
Thus, there is a way to partition my articles. Also, Computer Science articles are always based on an undisputable fact (Gödel’s Theorems, Quantum Nature of the Universe, etc). I just explain them with my style and words. On the other hand, articles about my experiences and takes have debatable foundations. You can agree with me or not.
That’s why there can be people who like my explanations but not my takes, or vice-versa. The intent of adding sections is to separate the wheat from the chaff for those people. Of course, all my articles include some personal takes on a given topic, but here I’m referring to the essence of the article, the premises, and assumptions.
Before ending this part about the intent of the sectioning, I’d like to redeem myself and say that I’m also a decent guitar player and cook. I like history, literature, and beer. I just don’t feel confident writing about those topics.
The Brand New Sections
I decided to add three sections:
Theory Room: These are the most… well, theoretical articles. They are the ones about undisputable Math and Computer Science facts.
Algorithms, Crypto, and Engineering: These are more diverse. At their core, there is always a debatable premise or assumption. However, they are not only an opinion, the content always includes a big dose of facts and proven methodologies.
Personal Growth: I’m not too convinced with the name of this one. This one is about how to be more productive, how to grow professionally, how to get things done, etc. You get it. I’m very careful with these. I try to communicate what has worked for me or the people around me. I don’t want just to throw you the same advice you have always heard. I write these articles based on my first-person experience and never on what a third-person says.
As you’ve seen, the names are not too creative. I want the names of the sections to describe what you can find inside them. This way your search time will be dramatically reduced.
I’m open to changing the sections in the future, and maybe adding more. If you have any suggestions on how I could do so, please tell me what you think.
Conclusion
I still want to write about partitions and equivalences, let’s hope to finish that one in the upcoming weeks. Today, it was just about Under the Hype sections. This post will be pinned on the Under the Hype website so all new users discover how the publications are organized. I’ll be updating this post from time to time whenever I change something.
Note: Don’t worry, you won’t receive an entire email just talking about the updates every time.
Also, I structured this article like a usual weekly article. If you are new to Under the Hype, this is what my posts look like. They are short (this is a little bit shorter than the average one), they are split into shorter sections, and the last of those sections is always a conclusion (like this one).
While doing this sectioning, I realized one thing. In the beginning, I wrote much more about Algorithms and Engineering, but after a couple of months Under the Hype has become too theoretical.
I’d love to hear (or read) your feedback about the newsletter. Are you enjoying it so far? What is your favorite section? What would you change? By answering these questions you’d be helping me to deliver much more value to you each week.
And that’s it! Thank you so much for reading and have a lovely week.
See you next Tuesday!
This is a great idea. An extra step I took was writing and index article organizing and linking my best content with some structure. I update this index and send it by email every couple of months. I think it helps new readers find they're way because not always the latest (nor the first) articles are the ones you should read first.
Nice! I think I need to figure out the index of my newsletter first :P. But after writing for several weeks, it is important to add some structure.
